From Me To You
When I was 12, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Generalized Epilepsy. It was kind of an odd sort of discovery, as it seemed to happen overnight. There were no warning signs that I could remember. Just that I was in health class, we were learning how to take care of egg-babies. I looked down at the egg in my hand, and I lost control over my hand in a convulsion. I definitely failed that assignment. I was sent to the nurse as absence seizure after absence seizure shifted the teachers focus from the class and onto me. My school called my parents, to tell them something was wrong, something I was describing as "Out of Body Experiences". My father never let me hear the end of that one. But when he got to the school, he recognized the seizures for what they were, and he made me appointments with neurology to be officially diagnosed. At 12, it was a scary experience to go through. Now 40, and my seizures just seem to get worse with age. Still scary, but I want to use my knowledge for good. I had previously had some control over my seizures, but I suffered a stroke in 2015, and lost all the progress I had made. It's a longer story for another day. But I want you to tell me your stories. Share your experiences here and feel free to combine resources. This is a safe space.
